What Happened
A suburban beagle named Waffles reportedly upgraded from regular begging to remote work Wednesday after discovering that pawing the porch doorbell camera made a human voice appear. Unfortunately for everyone with a delivery route, Waffles immediately interpreted the feature as customer service.
According to the family, the dog began pressing the button whenever a driver approached, then stared into the camera with the grim patience of someone renegotiating a cable bill. One driver, hearing only heavy breathing and a single hopeful bark, asked if anyone needed help. Waffles responded by sitting beside the treat jar visible through the window, which witnesses described as “legally persuasive.”
Why This Matters
Smart homes are supposed to make life easier, but nobody warned us that pets would use them to open a second economy based entirely on snacks and emotional blackmail.
Deeper Context
The family has moved the treat jar out of camera range and disabled porch alerts during nap time. Waffles has since begun studying the thermostat with worrying intensity, so negotiations may simply be entering a new phase.
