Community Chat Assigns Folding Table Deputy Mayor

A volunteer signup sheet got a little too official after one folding table was accidentally listed as event leadership.

What Happened

A community picnic planning chat reportedly promoted a folding table to deputy mayor after a volunteer spreadsheet shifted one row and nobody noticed until the table had responsibilities.

The sheet was supposed to list who would bring plates, coolers, and shade tents. But when someone inserted a new column for napkins, "six-foot folding table" slid under the leadership role and appeared beside the job title "Deputy Mayor of Setup."

Instead of correcting it right away, the group leaned in. One neighbor asked whether the table preferred the pavilion or the basketball court. Another suggested giving it a name badge. A third argued that, unlike last year, the table would probably arrive on time.

By afternoon, the table had been assigned ribbon-cutting duties, snack supervision, and final approval over lemonade placement. Someone even taped a paper tie to the front edge so it would look presentable for photos.

The actual deputy mayor arrived later, saw the spreadsheet, and reportedly agreed to share duties as long as the table handled the opening remarks.

Why This Matters

This matters because a shared spreadsheet can turn office furniture into local government faster than anyone expects.

Deeper Context

The folding table has not announced a platform. For another household object receiving too much authority, revisit the ceiling fan snack duty incident.
