What Happened
A dad reportedly started a backyard weather department after testing a patio misting fan and deciding the deck now required hourly conditions.
The fan was purchased to make a warm afternoon more comfortable. Dad connected the hose, clicked the dial to low, and immediately announced a light coastal situation, despite living nowhere near a coast and standing beside a bag of potting soil.
At first, the family appreciated the mist. Then Dad began rotating lawn chairs according to what he called the comfort cone. Anyone sitting outside the cone received an update, a towel, and a warning that conditions could shift if someone opened the cooler too aggressively.
The department gained staff when a cousin walked through the mist and said it felt nice. Dad promoted him to humidity observer and asked whether the burgers were experiencing reduced visibility. The cousin said they were on a plate. Dad wrote down plate-based visibility anyway.
The misting fan is still considered a success, but the family has limited official forecasts to before dinner and after dessert. Dad has accepted this compromise, though he continues to refer to the garden hose as infrastructure.
Why This Matters
This matters because some home upgrades cool the patio while also creating one very confident local meteorologist.
