Group Chat Misreads “Cider” as “Ciderer,” Hires Patio Detective

A typo about bringing cider sent a family group chat searching for a mysterious “ciderer” who was apparently expected to attend dinner.

What Happened

A family group chat reportedly hired a patio detective after autocorrect transformed a simple request for cider into a mystery involving a person nobody remembered inviting.

The original message was supposed to say, Can someone bring cider? A phone changed it to, Can someone bring Ciderer? Nobody noticed the error until an uncle replied, Is Ciderer the one with the folding table?

That question launched an investigation. One cousin searched old party photos. Another checked the neighborhood directory. Grandma said she vaguely remembered a Ciderer from a graduation, although the person in the photograph turned out to be a coat rack wearing a hat.

Within fifteen minutes, the chat had created a suspect profile. Ciderer was described as helpful, punctual, and possibly responsible for excellent beverages. A teenager volunteered to inspect the patio for clues. The family dog was named lead tracker after sniffing the cooler and finding a cracker.

The mystery expanded when somebody wrote, We need to know what Ciderer wants. This was followed by a seating chart, a welcome sign, and a poll asking whether the unknown guest should receive a name tag or a temporary badge. Nobody questioned why a beverage needed identification.

The typo was finally discovered when a cousin posted a photo of the cider carton. The family corrected the message, canceled the investigation, and left the welcome sign up because it looked festive. The dog retained his detective title and is now reviewing all grocery lists.

Why This Matters

This matters because autocorrect can turn one missing beverage into a cold case before anyone checks whether the mysterious suspect is actually a drink.
