A family's hamster, Houdini (because of course his name was Houdini), achieved what most pets only dream of: freedom. The escape was impressive. The method was baffling.
Houdini lived in a standard large cage with typical hamster amenities: wheels, chew toys, hideouts. The cage was in a bedroom, nowhere near any electronic devices. Yet somehow, on a Saturday morning, his owners found him two rooms away, sitting in the hallway outside their home office.
The mystery deepened when they realized the home office door was locked. The lock was a keypad lock, code-protected. And there, on a sticky note literally next to the keypad—because one parent believed sticky notes were secure—was the 4-digit code written in permanent marker.
Investigation suggested that Houdini, a hamster with apparently advanced problem-solving skills, had somehow figured out how to trigger the keypad buttons. Whether by jumping, pushing, or sheer adorable determination remains unclear.
